Migrate WordPress posts with post image
Such articles are usually created for a reason. In our case, we had to migrate posts from a very large and complex blog, i.e. transfer them from one WordPress installation to another. During the final transfer of posts using the usual WordPress export/import function, however, the post images suddenly no longer migrated.
So we looked for ways to export the posts and import them into the new website in such a way that the post images would actually be migrated.
We tried these two plugins, but they did not produce any results:
Both plugins were successfully used by other WordPress users, but not in our situation.
However, a successful migration of the posts including post images was possible with this plugin:
How it works
- Install and activate the plugin.
- Select posts under "Tools" / "Export data" and narrow down the selection if necessary. If there are many posts per month, then perhaps create export files for a period of one to three months. If the export file is about one MB in size, the import should work. You may need to experiment a little.
- Place a checkmark next to "Export Media with selected content"
- In the new website under "Tools" / "Import data", activate "WordPress import" and then import one file after the other. This will take some time per file (between a few seconds and a few minutes).
This should now also include the post images.
If you still do not have all the images on the new server, you can copy the missing images using FTP (the wp-content/uploads directory).
